♥ Hoje nasceu um novo país… Sudão do Sul!

O Sudão Sul, tornou-se oficialmente independente, às 0h de Sábado (21h de Sexta-feira em Lisboa).

Milhares de pessoas celebraram na Capital Juba, o nascimento desta que é considerada agora a mais nova nação africana (e do mundo).  

Entretanto, o  Sudão Sul, que será admitido pela Assembleia-Geral das Nações Unidas como 193º país membro desta Organização, passará também a ter a sua bandeira hasteada em frente do Edifício sede em Nova Iorque.

♥ This beautiful work was made by Alex Cherney.

In August 2009, at a star party, Alex C. took his first long exposure photograph of the night sky.

To produce this work, he had to take a several series of imagens and combining them into a time lapse video sequence, which made it more interesting.

This time lapse vídeo, which he calls “Ocean Sky”, took almost 1.5 years, 31 hours of taking images during 6 nights on the Southern Ocean Coast in Australia.

The “Ocean Sky”, was also awarded the winner prize at STARMUS Astrophotografy Competition.

Travelling to… Puerto Rico

♥ Even at the end of this month, I couldn’t forget to add one more place…
And this time my choise is… Puerto Rico!

For most of us, Puerto Rico means Sun, summer, beaches, nature, vacations… and several of other relaxing words.
P.R. is located in the caribean sea, where is summer during almost whole year, and San Juan is, it most important city. To discover more interesting topics about this Island, you only need to travel through the next movie.

Travelling to… Azores

♥ Lost in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, Azores is a group of nine Portuguese Islands discovered in the middle of the XV Century by the Portuguese navigators.

Azores are known by their natural beauty, the green landscapes and the beautiful and amazing lagoons specially the Lagoa das Sete Cidades (Seven Cities Lagoon) and Lagoa do Fogo (Fire Lagoon) in São Miguel Island.

In Azores, you can find the four seasons in one single day… so be prepared for all that; taste the great gastronomy like the typical food cooked into a volcano, located under the floor; and also navigate over the ocean to see the dolphins and whales…
I ensure you that who went there will never forget all these great combinations!

Travelling to… Easter Island

♥ The main reason which I chose the Eater Island, it was simple…
First of all, because April, as this year, use to be the Easter’s month, and secondly because this Island was discovered on Easter’s day, on April 5th in 1722, by the ducth sailor Jacob Roggenveen.

Travelling to… Petra - Jordan

♥ One more month, one more travel around of the world…
This time, and following the Jordan monarchs visit to Portugal, the chosen place is the mystical Petra.

PETRA is an archaeological site in the Arabah, located in Jordan - the oriental country considered as “The pearl of the Orient”.
Petra was unknow to the western world until 1812, when the Swiss explorer Johann Ludwing introduced it to the West.

In 1985, Petra was designated a World Heritage site by UNESCO and since July of 2007, during an international cerimony in Lisbon – Portugal, Petra also became one of the New 7 Wonders of the Modern World.

Travelling to… Rio de Janeiro

♥ This month, I’m remembering my time at Rio the Janeiro…
I miss that February…
Rio is a beautiful place where at this time of the year is overjoyed… with people dancing Samba all the time, wonderful beaches with amazing blue water, a very warm weather and great gastronomy too.

♥ After showing some vídeos of a several places in Latin America, this time I decided to bring some images from my beautiful country.

Even being a small country, Portugal has centuries of history and lot to offer.

With a great coast line with more than 800 km, Portugal has a lot of beaches, mountains, castels, palaces and gardens, museums and some others places which can makes us dream.

Many people use to say that Portugal has a Sun's bright which wasn't seen in no other place in the world... and this also makes this place, very special.

Travelling to… Atacama Desert

♥ Following the landscape of the last 007 movie, “Quantum of Solace”, this month we will travel along the Atacama Desert.

Located in Northern Chile, Atacama Desert is considered as a virtually rainless Plateau in South America, which covers 966 km strip of land on the Pacific Coast, west of the Andes Mountains. Occupies an area of 181.300 square kilometers of the Chilean North and is composed mostly of salt basin (Los Salares), sand and lava flows.

This Andean Desert has over 20 millions years old desert, and is one of the driest places on Earth (is fifty times drier than California’s Death Valley, and is the second driest desert in the world, after McMurdo Dry Valleys of Antarctica). The average rainfall in Chilean Region of Antofagasta is just 1mm per year. Atacama is so arid that mountains that reach as high as 6.885 metres are free of glaciers, and the soil use to be compared with the soil of Mars.

Atacama Desert is, today, considered as region unique on Earth.

♥ This time, we’ll go to Machu Picchu in Cuzco – Peru.
Considered as “The Lost City of Incas”, Machu Picchu was lost for over three centuries, and was rediscovered by Hiram Bingham in 1911.
And since last year, this mysterious city, it also became as one of the New7 Wonders of the World…
