♥ Muitos ainda hoje acreditam que o sonho do Presidente Kennedy dos EUA (que consistia na chegada do homem a Lua), nunca se concretizou e foi uma farsa… outros, consideram que foi um grande passo dado pela humanidade.
No entrando, foi já há 40 anos que “conseguimos” essa proeza, através da Missão Apollo 11.

É bem possível, muitas dessas dúvidas possam surgir, porque apesar da existência de várias missões protagonizadas pela NASA, parece que as mesmas deixaram o Satélite terrestre um pouco esquecido e à parte das outras descobertas, onde possivelmente durante estes 40 anos se poderia ser obtido e realizado um sem número de investigações, mas em contrário, pouco se fez em prol da nossa Lua.

Ironia do destino, é também o facto de a NASA ter admitido que apagou de forma acidental as fitas que possivelmente poderiam ser a prova mais fidedigna da chegada do homem à Lua no ano de 1969. Por esse motivo, e possivelmente para tentar provar o contrário, a Agência Espacial resolveu divulgar algumas fotos que visam clarificar o resultado desta missão através de fotos que incluem os vestígios da Missão Apollo 11, captadas durante a Missão Apollo 14 em 1971.

Travelling to… Puerto Rico

♥ Even at the end of this month, I couldn’t forget to add one more place…
And this time my choise is… Puerto Rico!

For most of us, Puerto Rico means Sun, summer, beaches, nature, vacations… and several of other relaxing words.
P.R. is located in the caribean sea, where is summer during almost whole year, and San Juan is, it most important city. To discover more interesting topics about this Island, you only need to travel through the next movie.

R.I.P.’s - Farrah Fawcett and Michael Jackson

♥ June’s 25, 2009 will be remembered, as a day of the two international stars losses.
Farrah Fawcett, died this morning at 9:28, at St John’s Hospital in Santa Monica in the ICU. The “Charlie’s Angels” star was diagnosed with anal cancer back in 2006, and since than her life was a constant fight.

“Ryan O'Neal just released the following: «After a long and brave battle with cancer, our beloved Farrah has passed away. Although this is an extremely difficult time for her family and friends, we take comfort in the beautiful times that we shared with Farrah over the years and the knowledge that her life brought joy to so many people around the world»."

After some hours, was Michael Jackson (Pop Music Star), at the Los Angels Hospital, but til an hour ago (11:00 p.m. Lisbon time – GMT Greenwich), only the TMZ site was confirming his death.
Michael suffered a cardiac arrest this afternoon at his Holmby Hills home, and according with a source “M. Jackson was dead when paramedics arrived”.
But the confirmation only was known this night by his doctor.

Even being a very polemic person, M. Jackon was a great reference into the Pop music, he was considered the King! And “Thriller” a disk from 1982, stills the most sold disk with more then 100 millions copies in the whole world.

In the end… even with 50 years old he was a big kid…

But the kings and the stars don’t die… they live forever, and for all those who like and love them…

Pedra Lunar Visita Portugal

♥ A famosa Pedra Lunar propriedade da NASA já chegou a Portugal e a partir do dia 22 de Maio até 24 de Julho pode ser observada no Museu da Ciência da Universidade de Coimbra (UC).

Este fragmento lunar, foi recolhido na última viagem à lua, durante Missão Apollo 17, comandada por Gene Cernan entre 7 e 9 de Dezembro de 1972, aliás “foi o próprio astronauta que a encontrou, a cerca de quatro quilómetros do local onde foi feita a alunagem.”

Com “152 gramas de peso, trata-se de um fragmento de uma rocha com mais de cinco toneladas e 3,9 mil milhões de anos, sendo mais velha que 99,99% de todas as rochas que compõem a superfície terrestre.”

A decisão de trazer a famosa Pedra Lunar até Portugal, já que este é um elemento único no nosso Planeta, coube a Nuno Silva da Critical Software, que patrocinou o evento e foi a Huston buscar a pedra, e o mesmo deveu-se ao facto de este ano para além de todas as celebrações relacionadas com o “Mundo da Astronomia” (como AIA – Ano Internacional da Astronomia, os 400 anos das primeiras observações Astronomicas através da utilização de telescópio por Galileu Galilei, assim como 150 anos da Teoria das Espécies por Darwin), também se celebrar os 40 anos da chegada do Homem à Lua.

Outro facto interessante, é o de que “durante a missão Apollo 15 ter sido realizada uma experiência que confirma a teoria de Galileu acerca da queda dos graves: sem o efeito da atmosfera, uma pena e um martelo largados em simultâneo atingem o solo ao mesmo tempo.”

Os 50 Anos do Cristo rei…

♥ Decorria o ano de 1959 quando a obra do Cristo Rei foi inaugurada pelo Cardeal Cerejeira, num evento que contou com a presença de várias personalidades e com a imagem da N. Senhora que veio propositadamente de Fátima para abençoar o evento. Hoje, 50 anos após essa data, a N.S.R. Fátima volta a Almada para abençoar o mesmo monumento.

A ideia de construir uma grande imagem de Cristo, surgiu em 1934 durante a viagem ao Brasil do Cardeal D. Manuel Cerejeira, o então Patriarca de Lisboa, após visita ao Cristo Redentor no Corcovado, Rio de Janeiro.

A ideia inicial, era que o monumento português fosse uma cópia fiel do Cristo Redentor, mas devido à suposta falta de verbas, este ficou a escassos 10 metros do original, ou seja, apenas conseguiu atingir os 28 metros de altura. Apesar disso, a sua construção que durou cerca 10 anos só foi conseguida graças às oferendas dos fiéis e populares da altura.

Situado, num local estratégico a 110 metros de altura de onde abraça o Tejo e vislumbra toda a beleza da cidade Lisboa e arredores, o Cristo-Rei, monumento da autoria do Mestre Francisco Franco, obteve um novo sentido quando a 20 de Abril de 1940, em plena II Guerra Mundial, os Bispos reunidos em Fátima, fizeram o voto de que: “Se Portugal fosse poupado da Guerra, erguer-se-ia sobre Lisboa um Monumento ao Sagrado Coração de Jesus, sinal visível de como Deus, através do Amor, deseja conquistar para Si toda a humanidade”.

Assim e dado esse facto, a 18 de Dezembro de 1949 era lançada a primeira pedra que daria início à construção de tão desejada obra à qual dariam o nome de Cristo Rei.

Hoje, e dada a sua importância, o monumento tornou-se num marco histórico, visível a vários km do local, promovendo uma magnífica vista panorâmica, sobre ambas as margens do Rio Tejo, a qual apesar de um pouco esquecida nos roteiros turísticos, vale a pena visitar.

♥ Despois do concerto de ontem no Pavilhão Rosa Mota, no Porto, esta noite, os há muito anunciados, Emir Kusturica & The No Smoking Orchestra vão estar em palco no Campo Pequeno, em Lisboa.
Para todos aqueles que por qualquer motivo não conseguiram assistir a este espectáculo, ou porque simplesmente não os conhecem, fica aqui uma pequena amostra do que poderia ter sido uma noite ao som desta banda.

José Franco e sua Aldeia Saloia…

♥ Segundo a Agência Lusa: “O oleiro José Franco, criador da aldeia típica do Sobreiro, em Mafra, faleceu ao início da madrugada de hoje no Hospital de Santa Maria, em Lisboa, com 89 anos.” (1920-2009)

Assim, e em homenagem ao Criador e à sua Obra, o qual o escritor Brasieleiro Jorge Amado considerou como “Um grande homem do Povo e artista do Barro e da Vida”, o “Um Mundo Diferente”, também decidiu deixar o seu contributo.

A Aldeia Típica de José Franco, fica situada na aldeia de Sobreiro, entre Mafra e Ericeira, e tornou-se numa das “aldeias” mais famosas do mundo, sendo hoje considerada como um local de paragem obrigatória para quem visita esta região do país.

Na sua obra, José Franco fez renascer uma aldeia Saloia do início do Séc. XX, onde retratou as mais diversas profissões e situações da vida quotidiana da época, produzidas através de personagens mecanizadas. Entre elas podem-se destacar: o famoso moinho de vento típico da zona; a sua velha sala de aulas, com as pequenas mesas em madeira, o armário da professora e a ardósia; a loja do barbeiro-dentista onde um freguês corta de barba; e a mercearia onde a Ti Helena serve um copito de vinho… tudo isto proporcionando-nos um ambientes bastante convidativo que nos permite não só sonhar como também viajar no tempo por escassos momentos.

Não deixem de visitar a famosa aldeia, já que esta se pode tornar num belo passeio de Fim-de-Semana.

100 Hours of Astronomy…

♥ 100 Hours of Astronomy is a Cornerstone project of the the International Year of Astronomy 2009 (IYA2009), which take place over four days and nights, from 2-5 April 2009.

“During this period, people from around the globe will share the experience and wonders of observing the sky. For many, it will be their first glimpse of the marvels of the heavens through a telescope. For others, it is the perfect opportunity to impart their knowledge and excitement, helping unveil the cosmos to fresh and eager eyes.

A live 24-hour video webcast called "Around the World in 80 Telescopes" will take place from 3 April 09:00 UT to 4 April 09:00 UT, following day and night around the globe to some of the most advanced observatories on and off the planet. Viewers can find out what is happening at a research observatory in their home country or on the other side of the planet, send in questions and messages, see new images from the cosmos, and discover what astronomers are doing right now!

Participating telescopes include the Hawaii-based telescopes Gemini North and Keck, the Anglo-Australian Telescope, telescopes in the Canary Islands, the Southern African Large Telescope, Chilean observatories such as ESO's Very Large Telescope, space-based telescopes such as the NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope, ESA XMM-Newton and Integral, and many more.
In fact, "Around the World in 80 Telescopes" will take viewers to every continent, including Antarctica! The webcast itself will be hosted at the European Southern Observatory's headquarters in Munich, Germany with live streaming by Ustream.tv.

Anyone with a web browser supporting Flash will be able to follow the show via the 100HA website and be a part of the project. TV stations, web portals, and science centres can also use the high quality feed, and the video player can be embedded on websites. Representatives of the media who wish to report from the "front-line" and interview the team should get in touch.

The featured programme "Global Star Party", commencing at sunset on 4 April, is set to be an all-encompassing event of extraordinary scope. Amateur astronomers, clubs and other groups will be setting up telescopes in public places to allow as many people as possible to look at the heavens. Traditional star party locations such as busy streets and shopping centres will be covered, as well as less conventional places including rest homes and military bases. Enthusiasts have been working hard to ensure that an incredible number of people will be able to look through a telescope during the Global Star Party.

These two headline initiatives are being supported by many more activities like the "Sun Day" (April 5) and "100 Hour of Astronomy Junior" and several "100 Hours of Astronomy Opening Events" around the world.

All this is, of course, in addition to the thousands of local events being planned by science facilities and astronomy enthusiasts around the world, including telescope observing sessions, exhibitions, special shows and more.

100 Hours of Astronomy is a venture of breathtaking scope that will involve people from all walks of life around the globe. Get involved, and be part of a record-breaking worldwide event!”

Travelling to… Petra - Jordan

♥ One more month, one more travel around of the world…
This time, and following the Jordan monarchs visit to Portugal, the chosen place is the mystical Petra.

PETRA is an archaeological site in the Arabah, located in Jordan - the oriental country considered as “The pearl of the Orient”.
Petra was unknow to the western world until 1812, when the Swiss explorer Johann Ludwing introduced it to the West.

In 1985, Petra was designated a World Heritage site by UNESCO and since July of 2007, during an international cerimony in Lisbon – Portugal, Petra also became one of the New 7 Wonders of the Modern World.

Reis da Jordânia Visitam Portugal

♥ Os Reis da Jordânia, Abdullah II e Rania, iniciaram hoje a sua visita oficial a Portugal, a convite do Presidente da República Aníbal Cavaco Silva.
Esta visita surge um ano após a visita do P.R. Português à Jordânia e tem como objectivo reforçar os laços bilaterais entre os dois países, através da assinatura de protocolos de cooperação nas áreas da Educação, Ciência, Tecnologia, Ensino Superior, Juventude e Comunicação Social.

Durante esta visita de dois dias, os Reis da Jordânia estarão presentes em vários eventos, entre os quais se destacam, de manhã uma visita ao Palácio de Belém onde serão recebidos pelo Presidente da República e sua Esposa, e de seguida a Rainha e a Primeira Dama visitam o Museu dos Coches.
Após o almoço, os Reis serão recebidos no Palácio de S. Bento pelo Presidente da Assembleia da República, onde serão distinguidos a Rainha Rania e o ex-Presidente da República Português, Jorge Sampaio, com o Prémio do Centro Norte-Sul do Conselho da Europa.
À noite, os monarcas seguem para o Palácio da Ajuda onde marcarão presença no Banquete oferecido pelo Chefe de Estado Português.

No segundo dia da visita ao país, o Rei participará num seminário que terá como objectivo estreitar os laços comerciais entre os dois países, enquanto a Rainha e Maria Cavaco Silva, visitarão uma escola onde se encontrarão com os alunos do “Projecto Geração/Oportunidade”.

O regresso dos Reis a Amã, deverá ocorrer ao início da tarde de terça-feira.

Image From APOD - Lenticular Clouds Above Washington

Lenticular clouds are stationary lens-shaped clouds that form at high altitudes, normally aligned at right-angles to the wind direction, and sometimes under certain conditions the Lenticular Clouds can form, creating a formation known as a wave cloud.

This image of a spectacular cluster of Lenticular Clouds was taken last December, when during some days the city of Seattle, Washington, USA, was treated to an unusual sky show when lenticular clouds form near Mt. Rainier, a large mountain that looms just under 100 kilometers southeast of the city.
